The Pampa Lady Harvesters (14-10) went 5-2 at a tournament in Denver City last week, picking up wins over Fort Stockton (22-25, 25-15, 25-18), Lovington (25-12, 25-14), Klondike (25-14, 25-5), Big Spring (25-21, 25-19) and Kermit (25-16, 25-9). The Lady Harvesters fell to Wink (9-25, 25-15, 20-25). Head Coach Kaylee Samulowitz was encouraged by what she saw out of her team to wrap up tournament season, especially setting the tone with the win over Fort Stockton to start.
“We started the tournament off 4-0 and got a good quality win over Fort Stockton the very first game,” Samulowitz said. “It was great to see them lose a first set and then come back and win the next two pretty convincingly.”
The beauty of tournaments is that there is always something to take away from the losses. In this case, it’s finishing the wins when you can.
“In both of our losses we struggled to maintain and lead and finish when we were up big,” Samulowitz said. “We have to work on staying focused and keeping our foot on the gas until we reach 25. It was tough to lose two matches that we should’ve won, but it was also a great learning experience going into district.”
A valuable part of the senior leadership for the Lady Harvesters, Yartiza Saenz had two aces, 24 digs and two assists.
“I would say Yaritza for athlete of the week,” Samulowitz said. “She was locked in this weekend and came off the bench and played the best she’s played all year.”

The Lady Harvesters returned to the road on Tuesday when they traveled to Plainview.
“Plainview seems to be very similar to us with their offensive and defensive style,” Samulowitz said. “It should be a great game for us, and I’m hoping we can go in and beat a quality opponent with District one week away.”
