On Saturday, May 7, voters have the opportunity to consider two legislatively-proposed state-wide constitutional amendments.
Proposition 1 would authorize Texas legislators to lower the limit on property taxes imposed on the homesteads of elderly or disabled residents to reflect any tax reduction enacted by law from the 2019 legislative session. In 2019, a bill passed which gave people this reduction of ad valorem taxes, but did not include disabled or senior citizens. This proposition 1 would allow disabled and senior citizens the same privilege.
Proposition 2 would increase the homestead exemption for school-district property taxes from $25,000.00 to $40,000.00.
Voter turnout for the past elections in Gray County has been very low. Please get out and exercise your civic responsibility and privilege this next Saturday at the Pampa Independent School District Administration building from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
