Light of the World

Posted

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

This past weekend something happened that really didn’t catch me off guard, but was still not something that I wasn’t expecting. Evidently Joshua felt that I didn’t have enough to do so he asked if I could help him do something.

I knew that they had gone to Amarillo and had purchased a trampoline. I really didn’t want to put one together, but I told him I could help. Then he told me that he had purchased some new LED lights for underneath the awning at their house and he wanted me to help him get them put up.

Man that was great! He never mentioned the trampoline. So I told him that I could help. I went over on Saturday afternoon to begin working on the lights.

First we determined how we would get things set up before we started. Then we took down the old lights, put up the base for the new lights, got the wires lined out and then started wiring everything up. All in all it went really well.

On the lights there were three different settings for brightness. Joshua said he wanted it on the top setting so they would really put out some great light. He set them where he wanted them. After each was wired in, we tested it before we attached them to the base. They really did put off some great light.

As I was thinking about what we had done, my mind turned to the subject of the light in scripture. John 8:12 says -- Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.

Many times it’s easy for us to walk along the path in life thinking that we know exactly where we are going. Then for some reason something comes up and the ‘darkness’ of an event sets in. We find ourselves unable to determine where the next step should be. It can be really difficult.

That is when we have to follow the Light – Jesus. In John 12:46, Jesus said – “I have come as Light into the world, so that no one who believes in Me will remain in darkness.” As we believe in and trust Him, the Light of His life will shine upon us and we will not walk in the darkness.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus shared about the light. He said -- 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

Jesus, the Light of the world, helps us to become light to those around us so that we can point them to Him. Like Joshua, we need to have our light, Jesus, on the top setting so it will put out the great light. People need to be able to see Jesus in us as we go through each day.

Now is the time when our Light, Jesus, needs to shine so that others will see Him in us. As you go through the coming days, let your ‘light shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven’.

So make sure Jesus, the light of the world, is on the top setting in your life!

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
