Mary Bob Laycock, of Pampa, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at her home. She spent her final moments surrounded by her beloved husband Ray and her devoted daughters, embodying the love and warmth that defined her long and remarkable life.
Mary Bob was born on May 3, 1934, in Amarillo, Texas, to Cecil and Lottie Eva Denson. She spent her formative years in Wheeler, graduating from Wheeler High School in 1952. At the tender age of 16, she married Ray Laycock on February 14, 1951, just before his deployment to Korea with the U.S. Army. Their marriage of 74 years stands as a testament to their unwavering love, partnership, and commitment.
Throughout her life, Mary Bob held various positions, including roles at Cabot Corporation and Travis Elementary School, as well as administrative duties for several companies. However, her most treasured role was that of a housewife and mother. She delighted in spending time with her grandkids, engaging them with activities such as reading, baking, and decorating cookies, all accompanied by the joyful sounds of their laughter.
Known for her fierce independence and remarkable intelligence, she was an avid fan of game shows, often outsmarting contestants with her quick wit. Her passion for cooking extended to her love of cookbooks, with her collection reflecting her dedication to the culinary arts.
Mary Bob and Ray shared a love for camping that began in 1969 with their first trip to the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. This adventure sparked a lifelong passion, and the couple traveled extensively, particularly to the Colorado mountains, until health challenges made it no longer feasible.
Their generosity extended beyond their family, as Mary Bob and Ray were always ready to assist neighbors and friends in need. Whether running errands, taking others to doctor appointments, or offering a helping hand, their selflessness and big hearts left an indelible mark on those around them.
Mary Bob now joins her parents, Cecil and Lottie Eva, her brother Robert Denson, and her son Lyn Laycock in eternal rest.
Her spirit and legacy will endure through her devoted husband, Ray; daughters, Linda Laycock of Pampa and Rachel Dorsey and her husband Travis of Bellingham, Washington; two grandchildren, April Ledbetter and Alicia Nelson; eleven great-grandchildren, Easton Adams, Evren Adams, Connor Dorsey, Luke Dorsey, Ryan Dorsey, Jadon Gill, Jace Gill, Elyssa Ledbetter, Eli Ledbetter, Malcolm Nelson, and Autumn Nelson; one great-great-granddaughter, Lina Adams; and a special friend, Carl O’Neal. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Winegeart Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, officiated by Brother Jim Sinyard. Following the service, Mary Bob will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery. The family has entrusted Winegeart Funeral Home with the care of their loved one.
