Morlan Clarence Shuman, Jr. “Coach Shu”, passed away February 6, 2023, in Pampa.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, February 10, 2023 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Alan Wilson, pastor of First Baptist Church of White Deer, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Morlan was born on August 11, 1955, in Austin to Yvonne and Morlan Shuman, Sr. As a young boy his family moved to White Deer where he grew up, attended, and graduated high school. Morlan was an exceptional athlete who excelled at various sports that included tennis, golf, baseball, and he played football at the college level at William Penn University.

After graduating college, Morlan returned to White Deer to work with his family at Farmers Elevator which led to a career in the fumigation industry spanning several states. In 1994, he moved to Georgia and began a lifelong mission of sobriety and helping others find it; Morlan would live and work there until he moved back to White Deer in 2005. In White Deer, his love for sports and giving back continued and he coached for Mean Machine for several years and was affectionately known as “Coach Shu.” Morlan completed his masters degree in Drug and alcohol therapy and was able to work at The Bridge as a counselor.

Morlan was a giving man who wanted the best for others, and he was a very supportive member of the Alcoholics Anonymous and he was approaching his 26th year of sobriety. In his spare time, he liked riding his motorcycle, playing chess, and telling stories to his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents; a nephew, Bill Bryan; and two brothers-in-law, Jay Roth and Billy Srader.

Morlan is survived by his two daughters, Sarah Lee and husband Jason of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Brittany Liberty and husband Shannon of Pampa; grandchildren, Raven Olney, Ethan Lee, Alexia Olney, Dylan Lee, and Declan Liberty; three sisters, Heidi Roth of Farmington, New Mexico, Yvette Bryan, and Leia Srader both of White Deer; aunt, Phyllis Wells of Casa Grande, Arizona; two nieces, Christa LaRue and husband Scott of White Deer, and Amber Fuqua and husband Justin of Pampa; three nephews, Kris Roth of Farmington, New Mexico, Tayler Roth of Farmington, New Mexico, and John Bryan and wife Megan of Canyon, Texas; great nieces and nephews, Kylan LaRue, Erin LaRue, Helton Srader, Bryson Fuqua, Laykon Fuqua, Sadie Bryan, Brynlee Bryan and Jonas Bryan; and other extended family.
