O.L. “Rusty” McClure, 96, of Pampa, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024 in Pampa.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday February 24, 2024 at Fairview Cemetery with Keith Feerer, retired Church of Christ minister, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Rusty was born July 1, 1927 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Raymond and Cleo McClure. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. On December 31, 1957, he married Gwendolyn Powell in Borger. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before she passed away on November 4, 2020. Rusty was an electrical lineman, working all over the country, for over 20 years. He also was a bronc rider in his younger years and traveled all over participating in rodeos. Rusty and Gwen lived in Laketon, on their farm, from 1966 until they moved to Pampa in 1995. During that time, he worked for J.E. Carlson, Inc. for many years as a welder. Rusty officially retired in 1999. He was a longtime member of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ Church. Rusty enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a very generous man, who would help anyone that needed help. Rusty loved his family and would do anything for them, he will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Shawn McClure, Carol McClure, and Kathy McClure; and a son, Donald McClure.
Survivors include his daughter, Gayla Pickens of Pampa; two sons, Gary McClure and wife Delia and Jon McClure and wife Diane all of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, Rosa Sotomayor, Lucy Dugan both of San Diego, California, Gary McClure, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, Galen Pickens of Iowa Park, and Kacy Oliver and husband Aaron of Amarillo; and a great grandson, Cameron Oliver of Amarillo.
