The Pampa Harvesters (0-9, 0-4) hosted the Canyon Eagles (6-3, 2-2) on Friday for their home finale. It was also Senior Night for the Harvesters.
The Canyon Eagles jumped to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Harvesters took over on the ensuing drive at their own 20-yard line. Two plays into the drive, junior Jeryn Owens found junior Aaron Martinez for a 39-yard completion to move the chains and move into plus territory. Unfortunately, the drive stalled after a false start penalty and the Harvesters punted the ball.
The Eagles extended their lead to 28-0.
Later in the half, Owens scrambled for 46 yards to put the Harvesters deep in Canyon territory. But the Harvesters settled for a field goal attempt. The low kick was, however, off center to the right and the Harvesters remained scoreless.
The Harvesters added one more first down in the second half off a run from junior Aiden Hammond. The Harvesters trailed 48-0 at the half.
Down 51-0, the Harvesters set up shop at their own 12-yard line. Owens had a 21-yard scramble run, followed by a seven-yard catch-and-run from sophomore wide receiver Paxton Daniels. Sophomore running back Colton Rose moved the chains for seven yards for a fresh set of downs. Owens and Daniels connected for another 40 yards to move to the 13-yard line. The Harvesters weren’t able to punch it in, but junior kicker Brayan Montelongo kicked a 30-yard field goal to get on the board 48-3.
Canyon added another three points, to extend the lead to 51-3. The Harvesters found paydirt early in the fourth quarter, when Owens scrambled for 75 yards and a touchdown. The Montelongo extra point made it 51-10.
In the closing seconds of the game, Rose found a crease and made Canyon defenders miss to find the endzone on a 39-yard touchdown run to finish the game 51-17 after the Montelongo extra point.
The Harvesters return to action on Thursday when they travel to Canyon to play West Plains at Happy State Bank Stadium. It will be the regular season finale for 2-4A action. Game time is at 7 p.m.
