The Pampa Harvesters (10-6-1, 3-2) have found themselves in a lot of close games throughout the season, many of which they came out on the winning side. Tuesday was a different story, however, as Pampa fell to the Dumas Demons on Tuesday afternoon 4-3.
“So we got down 0-3 in the third,” Head Coach Austin Samulowitz said. “We walked in a couple of runs, had a couple of errors that put us down. The following inning we pushed across two and later on we tied it up. I think the difference yesterday was we left too many runners in scoring position. We did a good job putting the ball in play, we just didn’t do a good job scoring the runners.”
The Harvesters found themselves in a 3-0 hole after the third inning. Senior Isaiah Anguiano hit a home run the following frame to put the Harvesters on the board 3-1 in the fourth. Junior Conner Hall would follow that with a ground ball, followed by a Senior Noah Anguiano walk to put two on base. Senior Isaiah Estrada loaded the bases with a bunt single. Junior Max Neff did a job with a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Hall for the RBI and making it a one-run 3-2 game.
The Harvesters tied it up in the fifth inning on a sac fly from I. Anguiano, scoring senior Brooks Barton.
The Demons tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth, which ultimately held true and the Harvesters fell 4-3.
Noah Anguiano, who hits in the eight-hole and plays first base when Barton is pitching, has been a model of coming in and putting in the work, according to his head coach.
“Noah is an awesome kid and a hard-worker,” Samulowitz said. “He’s quiet, but you know what you’re going to get from him. He comes in every day, even keel and just shows up to work. He bats eighth for us and does a good job just getting on base.
“Yesterday he got hit by a pitch and drew a walk. He was on base 2-out-of-3 times. In the eight-hole, that’s all you ask for: get on base. He plays first base when Brooks pitches and is very fundamental. He’s grown a lot, and I’m very proud of the young man he has turned into.”
The Harvesters returned to action on Friday when they did the second leg of a two-game road stretch at Canyon (4-1 District).
“We just need to play cleaner baseball,” Samulowitz said. “We know it, our fans know it. We’re doing a lot of good things, but we have to eliminate freebies. The last two games, freebies are killing us. That’s our focus going into Canyon. Perryton beat Canyon a couple of weeks ago, it’s not out of the question that we can, too. We’ve just got to play cleaner.”
