The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a 45-year-old man at Gray County Jail Monday morning.

On Sunday evening, Christopher Shouse was booked into the Gray County Jail around 9:30 p.m. for public intoxication by Pampa Police Department.

Gray County Sheriff Michael Ryan said the next morning around 3 a.m., Shouse was found unconscious in his cell. Minutes later, Gray County EMS and first responders arrived to tend to Shouse, who was later pronounced deceased.

Ryan said Shouse was not restrained.

The Texas Rangers were called to investigate, which is custom for any death in custody.
