Richard Wayne Bishop, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the community, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Pampa, Texas on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born on November 27, 1944, in Ada, Oklahoma, Richard was the son of Clarence and Juanita Bishop.

Richard’s early years were spent in Dumas, Texas, where he graduated from Dumas High School in 1962. He then pursued higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from West Texas University. A man of service, Richard also dedicated time to the US Army Reserve, exemplifying his commitment to his country.

Throughout his professional life, Richard worked primarily in the grocery business, serving in supervisory roles for well-known chains such as Furr’s and Albertsons. His career later transitioned to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) as a correctional officer, from which he eventually retired. However, his dedication to his work led him to return to TDCJ on a part-time basis even after retirement.

On March 17, 2001, Richard married the love of his life, Sue, in Amarillo, Texas. The couple shared a deep bond and in 2014, they moved to Pampa where they became active members of Grace Baptist Church. Richard’s love for his church family was profound, and he cherished the fellowship and spiritual connection he found there.

Richard had a passion for gospel singing and, during his college years, he sang in a gospel quartet. His devotion to his faith was unwavering, as he dedicated his mornings to daily Bible readings. A man of many talents, Richard was an avid reader, gardener, and skilled woodworker, creating treasured pieces for family and friends. He was also a passionate Texas Longhorns fan and enjoyed road trips on his Harley with his brother, Dwight.

Known for his quiet and reserved nature, Richard was a man of God who placed his love for the Lord above all else. His second priority was always his family, particularly his wife Sue and their beloved dog, Scout. Richard’s multitasking skills were legendary; he often had the TV tuned to football, his phone playing YouTube gospel singing, while simultaneously reading a book in his lap.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Juanita Bishop.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Bishop of Pampa; his children, Craig Bishop and wife Jenifer of Lubbock, Cristal Bishop of Keller, TX, Greg Campbell of Mineral Wells, and Lisa Braddock and husband Pete of Childress. He also leaves behind a brother, Dwight Bishop and wife DeRenda of Amarillo; two sisters, Vonna Jones and husband Dennis of Lewisville, TX, and Marilyn Newport of Guymon, OK. Richard was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Ashton Paredes, Chasen Paredes, Braydon Rist, Adalyn Bishop, Josiah Bishop, Alliot Bishop, Judah Bishop, Clay Hinton, Kelsey Davies and husband Kyle, Damon Campbell, and Tinsley Campbell. He also had four great-grandchildren: Eliora Paredes, Waylon Paredes, Ivy Davies, and Brooklynn Hunton. In addition to his immediate family, Richard is remembered by numerous extended family members who loved him dearly.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Grace Baptist Church.

Brother Kyle Ohsfeldt will officiate the service, with Pastor Norman Rushing assisting. The family has entrusted Winegeart Funeral Home with the cremation care of their beloved Richard.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Richard’s memory to either Grace Baptist Church, PO Box 839, Pampa, TX 79066-0839, or Shriners Children’s Texas, 815 Market Street Suite 523, Galveston, TX 77550.

Richard Wayne Bishop will be remembered as a devoted servant of the Lord, a loving husband and father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a cherished friend to all who knew him. His gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and dedication to his family and community will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
