Roll the Dice BBQ Headed to American Royal World Series

Roll The Dice BBQ is headed to Kansas City, Kansas on Wednesday, September 27 to compete in the American Royal World Series of Barbecue for the first time. The Barbecue will be held on the infield of the Kansas City Motor Speedway.

“The American Royal is the largest Barbecue cook-off in the world. They have teams from all across the U.S. and from other countries. At last count, there was 530+ teams entered so far. They are expecting more than 600 teams to compete this year,” said Chad Epperson, owner of Roll the Dice BBQ trailer.

“It’s been a goal of mine to do it, and so this year it worked out to where we could go. We’ll leave Wednesday, the 27th of September, and we’ll be back October 2nd. It’s almost a week-long contest.”

Epperson will be traveling with his son, Bryson Epperson.

“Bryson is my right hand. He runs my smokers and puts all the food together. He’s done really well, and he’s done some cook-offs. He’s won a steak cook-off and placed pretty high doing some other stuff,” Epperson said proudly of his son.

“We’ve won contests and placed really high in contests. We went to one down in Lubbock about a month ago and placed really, really high on our points. So, I’m really excited about this one coming up. Our goal is to just get a call. If you’re even in the top 20 of 600 teams, that’s amazing.”

Although Epperson and his son aren’t leaving for another two weeks, the menu is already planned out.

“We’re going to have our ribs, brisket, pork, chicken and then we’re doing a sausage category and a turkey-smoked category. One of the nights we’ll be meeting with some friends of ours from east Texas and we’re having a nacho pile-on,” he shared.

The Pampa News wishes Chad and Bryson the best of luck in the contest. Safe travels!
