Sam Standish, 72, of Alanreed, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, in Alanreed.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 2, 2022, in McLean, Texas at One Way Church with Pastor Casey Carter, pastor of One Way Church, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Alanreed Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Sam was born on October 6, 1949, in Pampa to Mette Walter and Ann Standish. He was raised in Alanreed and attended schools in Alanreed and Mclean. He married the love of his life, Donna Moore, in Pampa on August 30, 1968. The two shared 53 wonderful years of marriage together. After high school, Sam went to work for Cabot in Pampa. After 7 years, he left Cabot and began his long career as a maintenance supervisor for various gas companies. The company he started with went through many buyouts during his career. He was first with Kerr-McGee, then Delhi and Southern Union Gas, and eventually retired with Sid Richardson after a total of 42 years.

In his free time, Sam had many hobbies that he enjoyed. He loved fishing and boating and telling jokes. He liked to go gambling and play pool and poker. His favorite thing to do was play with his grandkids, great-grandkids, and his dogs. Sam joined the Masonic Lodge and Shriners in Perryton in 1988 and remained an involved member. He made many friends in his lifetime and would keep in touch with many of them with Facebook. Sam was a wonderful man and will be missed by all his friends and family.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Maria Kay Standish; great-granddaughter, Brylie Curtis; Sister, Sheila Standish; two nieces, Sonja Williams and Rhonda Herndon; father-in-law, Gib Moore; and mother-in-law, Clarice Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of the home; two daughters, Lisa Holdman and husband Mark of Midland, and Teresa James and husband David Cagle of Sherman; five grandchildren, Abbi Slaydon and husband Joseph of Longville, Louisiana, Chris Meek, Tanner James, Courtney Curtis and husband Erick, all of Midland, and Stetson Standish of Monahans; five great-grandchildren, Graysen, Ella, Sutton, Genesis, and Xavier; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Schindeldecker of Ohio and Barbara Hardy of Melissa, Texas; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
