Scotty Lee Baker

With heavy hearts and fond remembrance, we celebrate the life of Scotty Lee Baker, a resident of Pampa, Texas, who passed peacefully into eternal rest at his home on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Born on January 10, 1963, in Clayton, Missouri, to Patsy Werntz and James Baker, Scotty’s story is one woven with adventure, deep curiosity, and an abiding love for family, friends, and the world around him.

From his earliest days, Scotty possessed a bright and open spirit. As a child, his family relocated to Pampa, where he attended Baker Elementary, Pampa Middle School, and Pampa High School before the family’s move to Colorado. There, he graduated from Wray High School in 1981, and soon after, Scotty’s roots drew him back to Pampa. His pursuit of knowledge led him to technical school in Amarillo, where he studied computer science - an early sign of his ever-curious and analytical mind.

Scotty’s hands were never idle. He discovered a lifelong passion for mechanic work, finding immense satisfaction in restoring classic cars. His encyclopedic knowledge of muscle cars and their engines was matched only by his meticulous attention to detail—his seven grand tool chests each had a designated place, a testament to his respect for the craft. Yet his creativity and care extended beyond engines, as he took great pride in giving old, neglected homes a second chance, breathing new life into their walls and rooms through thoughtful restoration.

A true Sci-Fi enthusiast, Scotty found wonder in tales of the cosmos and the fantastical - delighting in books and films that stretched the imagination. His memory was a marvel in itself, readily recalling an array of fascinating facts, such as the Earth’s distance from the sun: 94.507 million miles. Scotty’s love of knowledge was only surpassed by his love for people. He was endlessly generous, always ready with a helping hand, a hearty laugh, or a clever joke to lighten the mood and bring joy to those around him. His playful sense of humor and outgoing nature made him a beacon of light—even in the darkest of times.

Six years ago, a twist of fate brought Julie Anne Stauff into his life, and together they shared a deep, extraordinary bond. Their partnership was filled with laughter, warmth, and the quiet joy of true companionship.

Scotty is now reunited in glory with his beloved siblings; brother, Stacy Lamm and infant sister, Sandy Baker.

Left to honor his memory and carry forward his legacy of kindness and joy are his loving mother and stepfather, Patsy and Clifton Martin of Pampa; his sons, Cory Baker and Cole Baker; and his chosen partner in life, Julie Anne Stauff. Their hearts carry his laughter, compassion, and radiant spirit.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Memorial service on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:00 am at Hobart Baptist Church, with Brother Brian Mullins officiating. The family has entrusted his cremation care to Winegeart Funeral Home.

In remembrance of Scotty, the family suggests that donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-3678—a gesture that reflects Scotty’s lifelong commitment to helping others.

To share memories, condolences, or expressions of love, friends are encouraged to visit www.winegeartfuneral.com and leave messages on Scotty’s Book of Memories. Though he is gone from our sight, the echoes of his laughter, kindness, and boundless enthusiasm remain—a testament to a life well-lived and dearly cherished.
