Slick conditions and speed led to a two-vehicle crash that killed a California woman just after midnight Thursday morning east of Amarillo in Carson County.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by Erica James, 45, Moorpark, Calif. was traveling east on Interstate 40 and was approaching a 2020 Volvo truck-tractor/semi-trailer driven by Artur Radovskiy, 35, Carmichael, Calif.

The semi was disabled from a previous crash and its trailer was partially in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the Nissan failed to control speed and struck the backend of the trailer, causing damage.

Erica James was pronounced dead at the scene by Carson County Justice of the Peace, Jean Hardman.

Radovskiy was not injured and both parties had their seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation.  Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigators findings.
