Susan Elaine Nelson, 77, of Pampa, passed away on November 26, 2023, in Pampa.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, December 1, 2023, at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Ben Corbitt of Faith Tabernacle UPC, officiating, and close friend, John Tripplehorn, eulogizing her service.
Burial and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Susan will be available for viewing from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Wednesday and 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursday.
Susan Elaine Nelson, born August 13, 1946, in Compton, CA to Red and Helen Nelson, and she passed away November 26, 2023, at the age of 77.
What is normally a sad occasion is a joyous one in this case, as she is now with her Creator and free of suffering.
Susan grew up in Pampa with dear friends, many of whom she remained close to throughout her life.
She graduated from Pampa High School in the class of 1964 and attended Texas Tech.
Susan was happily married to Don King of Bowie, Texas for many years.
Tragically, Susan was in an automobile accident in the early 70’s and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
She lived for 25 or more years at Tangren Rehabilitation Facility in San Marcos before moving to Pampa Nursing Home in 2013, where she passed.
She is remembered for her love of animals, most particularly horses and cats, her fun-loving nature and sense of adventure, her extreme loyalty, and indeed, a slight streak of orneriness.
She was dearly loved and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Susan is survived by a sister, Cathy Mathis of Ball Ground, GA; a niece, Laura Aubrey of Olathe, KS; several great nieces and nephews; and good friends, John and Susan Tripplehorn of Pampa.
She will be laid to rest next to her beloved mother, Helen, in Fairview Cemetery.
