Travel back in time with the High Plains Highwaymen.
The High Plains Highwaymen, a local Cowboy Action Shooting club, recently held an event at The Wolfpack Ranch. CAS is a competitive shooting event utilizing firearms that were used in the Old West. Through a series of rounds aimed at speed and accuracy, contestants use single action revolvers, level action rifles, and shotguns to see who can shoot these firearms the fastest. As well, contestants are encouraged to create a name and dress up in era-appropriate attire to match the spirit of the sport.
The times below are a cumulative total of the four CAS sessions the contestants participated in:

· Mojo Rising – 112.21 seconds
· Wynonna Earp – 115.33 seconds
· Howlin Wolf – 127.08 seconds
· Tam Bam – 136.48 seconds
· Blacksmith Jim – 162.73 seconds
· Slow Poke Okie – 165.14 seconds
· Ivy Wild – 169.44 seconds
· Marshal Gray – 291.43 seconds
Cliff Powers, owner of Mernickle Custom Holsters, is a member of High Plains Highwaymen. To encourage the community to participate in this competitive shooting event, the High Plains Highwaymen are hosting a “Become a Cowboy “event on April 8th.
People are invited to learn about the basics of cowboy action shooting at The Wolfpack Ranch on 13043 Gray County Road.
Participants must bring hearing protection and eye protection. Ammunition and firearms will be provided, courtesy of the High Plains Highwaymen.
“We want people to come out and have fun,” Powers said. “Hopefully, if people fall in love with it, they can join the High Plains Highwaymen.”
