KGRO first went on air in 1950 and has been on air for the Pampa community and surrounding areas for over 70 years. The station is known for playing hit music, but has a new sound now. Implemented at midnight December 25th, it now plays hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

“With our new owner, Grant has plans to revamp this place,” Station Director, Tim J. Texas said. “We love the idea of changes, and this is an exciting time for the listeners.”

With many plans to improve KGRO/KOMX this is the first to be done. The station is on AM for now, but will soon be on FM at 99.9

“One of the other changes we’ve made is the technology,” Tim said. “We can do a lot more from home and the software is able to pick it up and implement it, it makes things more modern.”

The motto for the new ownerships plans is to ‘Make It Great Again.’ The station has been a part of Pampa for many years, and when it started out it had a direct competitor, KPDN (Pampa Daily News).v

“When it started out, it was under a different name, the name has changed a lot. But it was the second station along with the Pampa Daily News radio station,” Mike Ehrle said. “The first radio station in Texas was started by the Dallas Morning News so when this station started out, it was competing against the papers station.”

So far the station hasn’t received much feedback as it’s only been out for week now but people have something new to listen to.

Further plans for change are going to include growing in reach volume the station has, reaching out to states the likes of New Mexico and Oklahoma and more talk segments.

“Right now we have a live show happening from six till nine,” Tim said. “Grant will go live and do a show about Pampa as you’re waking up and has people in the office come hop on. We’re calling it the morning crew. But we have plans to advance it more.”
