Vernon Dale Stillwell, 82, of Pampa, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 in his home.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery, with Pastor Paul Hudson. pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Vernon will be available for viewing from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Tuesday; 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, and 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Thursday.
Vernon was born October 6, 1940 in Cushing, Oklahoma to the parents Calvin and Alma Stilwell. Vernon with his family moved in 1946 to Pampa Texas. He grew up in Pampa. He went to Pampa Jr. High School where he met Eva Lamm. They married in August 1958. Vernon worked at Whites Auto after marrying Eva Lamm. After working at Whites, he got a job at Hoechst Celanese Chemical plant in Pampa Texas. Then in the early 1970’s, he moved his family to Amarillo, Texas where he continued his education at Amarillo Collage where graduated.
Vernon had a lot of accomplishments in his lifetime. Being a very good cook, he worked at Furr’s for years.Then later on he owned several businesses. In 1980’s, he was co-owner of Stillwell Hotshot service serving the oil fields. Vernon married Doris Guyton Stillwell in 1991 in McLean. They lived in Mclean together for many years until moving to Pampa, in 2009. After moving to Pampa and setting down there, he in went to work for the Texas Criminal Justice System for the Jordan Unit, working there for many years Vernon retired at age 62.
Through his life Vernon had many friends. He loved cooking, camping, fishing and spending time with his family. He loved his family dearly and every time he was around his family, he would tell them how much he loved them.
Vernon is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Guyton Stillwell in March this year; his parents, C.T. and Alma Stillwell; 3 brothers, John, Jim and Mike; and by one sister, Patsy Husley.
Vernon leaves behind one brother, Tom Stillwell of Pampa; three children, Zach Stillwell of Amarillo, Vernia Gregory of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Pam Fike of Edmond, Oklahoma; two stepchildren, Fred Pitt of Pampa and Eddie Pitt of Amarillo; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
