White Deer School Board Meeting

The White Deer ISD Board of Trustees met in regular session on Monday, June 19th 2023. The Board took action to approve the minutes of previous meetings. Starla Kindle was introduced to the board during open forum as White Deer ISD’s new district counselor for the 2023-2024 school year.

After open forum the board went into closed session to consult with the district’s attorney regarding the status and update on pending litigation in the matter of Kelly Martin v. White Deer Independent School District, et al. Closed session ended and a motion was made (1)

approve the Compromise Settlement and Release Agreement in the matter of Kelly Martin v. White Deer Independent School District, et al., Cause Number: 11807 in the 100th Judicial District Court in and for Carson County, Texas; (2) authorize the Board President to execute such Agreement on behalf of the District; and (3) authorize the individual trustees, and former trustees, to execute the Agreement as individual defendants; and (4) further authorize the Superintendent and the Underwood Law Firm, the District’s Legal Counsel, to take such other action as needed in accordance with the terms of the Agreement. The motion was approved unanimously.

Next, the board reviewed policy update 121 from TASB and approved the recommended policy changes, the board then set a Public Hearing for the proposed budget and tax rate on August 30th at 6:30, and this will also be the regular scheduled meeting for White Deer ISD in August. The board then held a discussion on possible changes to the drug policy and will take action at the July meeting on the possible changes.

The board heard reports from the principals and directors of the school district, reviewed the Business Manager’s report, and received an update from the Superintendent. At the end of the meeting White Deer ISD Board of Trustees had a team of 8 training. Dr. Nelson Coulter from Edu-Nation was the presenter. This was one of the best trainings I have been part of in my 10 years of being a superintendent with a board of trustees. The board then adjourned at 8:54
