The wait is over! Big Boy’s Pizzeria is now open for business and so far, business is booming with their first day bringing in the crowds and the pizzas disappearing as soon as they hit the buffet table.
Jay Mejia, owner of Big Boy’s Pizzeria, is excited for how the grand opening turned out, and the positive feedback he has received both in person and online, has him looking toward the future for his new and one-of-a-Pampa-kind business.
“The first people showed up about a minute before we opened, and when they came in, you could hear them saying how this was something different,” Jay said. “The comments on Facebook have been really positive too.”
“It’s going really well and I’ve told all the people that I’ve hired, ‘if you feel lost and you’re struggling, don’t worry, everyone is,’” he laughed. “We’re all just going with it.”
The Mejias are no strangers to owning and operating successful restaurants, and the pizza idea came into fruition when Jay tried his hand at making his own, never really having the experience prior.
“Well, originally it was supposed to be my brother’s, but between him and my dad, they couldn’t come up with something that they felt comfortable selling yet. But the last pizza they came up with tasted like Little Caesar’s, and I said you cannot make something that already tastes like something else. So I played around with it, and this is what I came up with. Everybody approved and now I’m here.”
Jay takes a lot of pride in making everything from scratch, just as it’s done next door at Mejia’s Bakery, and it’s that experience as a baker that gives Big Boy’s Pizzeria something truly special.
With ten different pizzas to choose from on the all-day buffet, Jay takes note on which pizzas are the most popular and quicker to disappear, but it also won’t be uncommon to see a new recipe that he has created find a spot on the bar.
“They’ve liked every single one so far, but yesterday I made a chicken Alfredo one, and apparently it was a hit. I would barely put it out and it was gone,” he smiled. “There’s also a bacon one that people really liked, but I have the kind you usually see like pepperoni, cheese or Hawaiian. But today I’m adding a BBQ chicken one to see how it goes.”
Big Boy’s Pizzeria also offers a full salad bar and dessert included with the buffet: $10.99 for adults, $8.99 for students Monday through Friday only, $7.99 for kids ages 4-11, and free for kids three and under. Fountain drinks and agua frescas are $3 with free refills.
They also offer wings in four different flavors: buffalo, mango habanero, lemon pepper, and BBQ: six piece for $8.99, eight piece for $10.99, and ten piece for $12.99, as well as a carryout special for a two-topping pizza for $8.99, $1 per extra topping.
So be sure to stop by 319 W. Foster in Pampa to grab a slice or few Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 9 PM and Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM.
“I’m just really glad and grateful for having another opportunity to serve Pampa. We’ve been here for 20 years and that’s what my family does and that’s what we will continue to do!”
