CASA of the High Plains, located at 315 N. Ballard St. in Pampa, is holding Back-to-School supply drive through July 26.
“This is our first year to participate in it and it’s through the Amarillo Angels,” CASA of the High Plains Executive Director Alissha Jefferis said. “What they are doing is providing backpacks and school supplies to children who are in foster care in our area.”
Children from the area include Pampa, Canadian, Perryton, Wheeler and others.
“They are all children who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) due to neglect,” Jefferis said.
Of the eight counties CASA of the High Plains covers, there are 122 children in foster care, with 42 of them still needing a volunteer advocate. Those willing to volunteer are encouraged to call CASA at 806-669-7638.
“We are always seeking volunteers for our program to advocate for the kids in our care,” Jefferis said.
Donations needed include markers (eight-pack), crayons, No. 2 pencils/pencil bags, pink erasers, pens (blue, black, red), highlighters, pocket folders with brads, glue/glue sticks, wide-ruled notebook paper, tissues, rulers, color pencils, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, expo dry-erase markers, 3x3 sticky notes and earbuds.
Jefferis said there hasn’t been many donations made in Pampa as of Monday and that monetary donations are welcome.
Drop-off hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
