Cuts 4 Kids: Pampa Haircut Outreach

Posted

As the new year rolls around, so does the last half of school, and with all the events, holidays, and crazy busy schedules the fall semester brought with it, it’s about time for a fresh cut and a new style.

For years, the talented team at The Hype Salon have held a free haircut event for each semester of school, but this year, the event will be even bigger.

They are partnering up with many of Pampa’s  stylists and barbers and heading over to Briarwood Church where their outreach can be stretched even further.

“We are partnering with Briarwood this year, and we’ve met with about 12 other stylists and barbers, so we’re all coming together and we’re calling this Cuts 4 Kids,” said The Hype Salon owner and stylist Kayla Henry. “So now instead of The Hype, it’s the Pampa Haircut Outreach program.”

“At our last event, we saw that there was such a hygienic issue and that there’s just such a need to take care of our kids. It doesn’t matter about the money, it doesn’t matter about anything else, it’s about the kids. They feel so much better when they walk into school with a fresh haircut, that’s why we do this every semester. It doesn’t matter if they could or couldn’t afford it, it’s just so great on how much they feel better. I just love helping build kids up that way.”

The big event is scheduled for this Sunday, January 4, at Briarwood Church, located at 1800 W. Harvester in the gymnasium, from 2 to 5 PM no appointment needed.

A hot meal will be provided as well as plenty of hygiene products, graciously donated by a company here in Pampa.

Briarwood is also setting up a booth with information on resources for families who need the extra help as well as their programs for kids.

“What I love about their kids programs is that theyre just so good and they get fed every Wednesday,” Kayla said. “They have the Feed the Flock on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, so two nights a week, those kids can get fed. So this has just been a passion of ours, and after our last event and all the people who came, we knew we needed to do something bigger.”

“We wanted to bring the community together,” said Hype Salon stylist Alicia Thomas. “We have a gift, and we get to talk to people, we see their highs and lows, we get to celebrate them with births and weddings, but we also get to be with them during deaths in the family. We want to be able to share that gift with everyone and be able to give back to the community, because at the end of the day, it’s not about us. It’s about coming together and sharing love. If you want to be the light, you have to show it through your actions.”

“It’s definitely a place to minster, and every time we have someone in the chair, we have seen God come through to us,” Kayla said. “It’s truly wonderful.”
