Not even a year in and Cyd’s Cafe as expanded to a bigger and better location up on 518 N. Hobart Street, previously the Fuego’s building.
But before it was ever a Fuego’s, many, many years back, it was a Sirloin Stockade, and it is there where Cyd’s Cafe owner, Andrew Morriss, has a deep personal tie to the building itself.
Cyd’s Cafe is named after his mother, Cydney, who passed away a little over two years ago, and Sirloin Stockade is one of the first restaurants she worked at out of high school, so for him to move his own restaurant into the same place his mother once graced with her presence hits very close to home.
“Right after high school, this building was actually the place she first started working in the restaurant industry,” Andrew said. “It’s really cool to come into a building that my mother worked in, and it’s a good feeling knowing that I’m carrying along a legacy.”
The building sat vacant for roughly a year, and when Andrew jumped on the opportunity to take it, he and his staff took no time to make the transition.
“It was a shut down and move as quick as possible, and we got it done in a two days,” he said. “There was only a little bit of electrical and plumbing to do here and there, just some normal maintenance, but with a bigger building, we got more equipment and hired more staff. ”
“It’s still a work in progress and it will be a work in progress until we can get everything figured out. When you move to a new location, you have to learn where everything is at again. It’s like changing a vehicle-you were so used to your own vehicle and knew everything about it and what you could and couldn’t do, and now with a different building, we have to learn what we can do better over here that we weren’t doing over there and how we can utilize the space and the storage. But we still know how to drive,” he smiled.
Not even a week into his new location, Andrew as expanded the menu to include ribeye steak and has added a full salad bar, and that’s only the beginning.
So be sure to check out their new location Tuesday from 7 AM to 2 PM, Wednesday through Saturday from 7 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday from 8 AM to 2 PM, and be sure to follow them on Facebook to see their daily specials and new menu items.
