Over the weekend, First Baptist Church held a block party in Prairie Village Park in an effort to invite the community out to the long-established church and learn about the exciting changes that will be taking place, and to just have a good time through fellowship and family-friendly fun.
First Baptist has welcomed its newest pastor, Enrique Perez, who will serve as the church’s first Spanish-speaking worship service pastor beginning September 7, and he is excited to become a part of the First Baptist family and the Pampa community.
“We are serving our community by trying to show them that we love them,” he said. “We also want to let them know that we are here to serve our Spanish-speaking community. We have partnered up with First Baptist Church of Pampa to serve everybody, but we want to let the Spanish community know that we are here for them too.”
Hailing from the Houston area, Enrique had traveled extensively back and forth for several weeks saying his farewells to a community he knew and loved while getting to know a community that he quickly embraced, and now he and his family have finally settled in this little slice of Texas and it’s a place he’s able to now call home.
“From the first time I came to visit Pampa and the church to meet up with Pastor Byron, I just felt peace and a tender love automatically for the town,” he said. “What I’ve loved so far is literally the fellowship between strangers. In Houston you don’t really get that, but here, I’ve already made many friends.”
Enrique and First Baptist’s mission is simple: to bring people together through the Word of God and to love one another like Jesus intended, and through that, anything is possible.
“We want to let you know that we love you. Jesus is hope, and He has come to give us hope and we all need it!”
