On Thursday, January 2, Judge Porter and the Gray County commissioners held their first meeting of the new year, quickly moving through the first consideration items that included the minutes of the previous meeting, paying bills as presented, considering any line-item transfers or budget amendments and accepting the County Treasurer’s November 2024 report.
Next was the approval of the Gray County Fiscal Year Audit Report from Doshier, Pickens & Francis, LLC, where a representative from the firm commended Gray County for being completely debt-free and setting a high standard for the Panhandle area.
Next was the consideration of appointing 4 new members to the White Deer Land Museum Board where Anita Gullet, the museum’s director, told the court how excited she was to add two brand new members to the board and the continuation of dedication from two other members.
“Our two new ones are going to be Mary Bagby. She is the daughter of Buddy and Ivory Price and she also sits on the Gray County Historical Commission. She is very involved and I think she is going to be a huge asset to the foundation,” Anita said.
“The other person is Katherine Campbell and her family has been here for many generations and she has been helping me with textiles, ranching and a lot of other different aspects. Herb Smith and Dan Morrison have both been a part of the foundation. Herb will be starting his new term which will be six years and Dan will be on his second which is three years. We’ve got the best of the best.”
The motion to approve the new appointments was approved.
The next two items were the consideration to approve the County Investment Policy and the New Copier Contract for the Annex Offices, both of which were approved.
Next item on the agenda was to consider approving the mileage rate of $0.70 for 2025, a 3 cent increase from the previous year; the motion was approved.
The miscellaneous item was a report from Della Moyer regarding the Historical Commission.
“I just wanted to give a quick report that the Alan Reed cemetery marker arrived and Commissioner Haley and team set the pole and they will put the marker on the pole as weather permits,” Della said. “We have plans for a ceremony in late spring. The other major project we had was Wyatt Johnson completed his Eagle Scout project which included restoring all of the historical markers in Gray County.”
After no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
