God’s Memory

Posted

Does God forget? Does God remember? More importantly, does God forget people’s sins?

Does God remember people’s sins? YES! YES!

God forgetting, not remembering, people’s sins is eternally critical. That truth is magnificently joyful news. Consider these passages, only a few of the 60-70 such verses.

Isa 43:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

Jer 31:34 “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Heb 8:12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

With that “good news” truth firmly in place: Does God remember people’s sins?

Ps 109:14 The Lord has sworn by himself, the Pride of Jacob: “I will never forget anything they have done.

Jer 14:10 This is what the Lord says about this people: “They greatly love to wander; they do not restrain their feet. So the Lord does not accept them; he will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.”

Hos 7:2 2but they do not realize that I remember all their evil deeds. Their sins engulf them; they are always before me.

Hos 8:13 Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to me, and though they eat the meat, the Lord is not pleased with them. Now he will remember their wickedness and punish their sins:

Hos 9:9; They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.

Am 8:7 The Lord has sworn by himself, the Pride of Jacob: “I will never forget anything they have done.

Rev 18:5 5for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.

What is the key to understanding this apparent contradiction about God’s behavior? Carefully look over these verses and think FAITHFULNESS!

2 Chr 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Isa 1:18-20 Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like  scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

19f you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; 20but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.”

Isa 55:7 7Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Ez 18:21-22 But if the wicked turn away from all the sins they have committed and keep all my decrees and do what is just and right, they will surely live; they will not die. 22None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live.

Mt 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Lk 6:46 Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

Ac 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

Rev 2:10 Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

So does God remember your sins? Or has He forgotten you sins? That all depends on what kind of relationship you have with Him. Is your relationship all words? Or is it filled with repentance, confession, humility, obedience, etc.? In other words, are you all talk about days in your spiritual past, or are you FAITHFUL, ALL-IN, proving your love for God by the life you live every day. Each of us had better know which category God says we are in, not our personal opinion; IT IS ETERNALLY CRITICAL! God bless.
