Haircuts, Fellowship and Building Partnerships: The Success of Cuts 4 Kids

Posted

This past Sunday, eight of Pampa’s talented stylists and barbers came together at Briarwood Church for the first annual Cuts 4 Kids event as part of the Pampa Haircut Outreach program.

The event brought 75 kiddos and their families from all over the panhandle to freshen up their dos for the new school semester by a team of artists who excel in their field of style and beauty.

The tradition originally started eight years ago with The Hype Salon who offered free haircuts for school-aged kids before every semester, but this year they wanted to even further their outreach and partnered up with Briarwood Church and many other stylists and barbers in Pampa.

Community over competition is the best way to describe Pampa’s spirit and is certainly a rare gem to find anywhere else, so to see these different salons and barbershops come together under one roof for one mission is truly moving, yet somehow not surprising.

“There’s no way we could have done this without their help,” said The Hype Salon owner and stylist Kayla Henry. “It was very moving to see everyone working together, and to see the church working with praying for the kids and getting the hygiene products out to them was such a great thing too and the facility was just perfect.”

Joeie Ponce and Marisol Martinez from The Color Bar, Consuelo Ortega from Reflections, Erika Ruiz of Erika’s Hair Studio, Colton Mooney from Pampa 217, and Allison Armendariz, Alicia Franklin, and Kayla Henry from The Hype Salon worked their magic from the Briarwood Church gymnasium floor, and guests were treated to a hot lunch provided from Pete and Stephanae Cooper of The Inn of Pampa.

Kala Lindley and Misty Auwen were the first faces that greeted the guests as they checked in at the door, greatly helping the operation run as smooth as possible.

Guests were also able to snag some hygiene products provided by generous donors, and were also given spiritual comfort through prayer from members of Briarwood.

Kayla extends an enormous thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen and looks forward to continuing the partnerships and tradition.

“I’m excited to see this grow, and to have it work as successfully as it did for the first time, it will continue to grow and we’ll have more people that will want to help, and we can’t wait until our next one.”

The next event will be announced for the fall semester at a later date, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that, but in the meantime, check out these wonderful folks for all your hairstyling needs all year round!
