This past weekend, Purpose Barbershop and Tattoo Shop hosted an event in Pampa that addressed an issue that isn’t widely talked about, and they did it through their love of art and a genuine passion for the cause.
The event was meant to raise funds to help provide the Pampa Junior High and Pampa High School with feminine hygiene products, a necessity that tends to slip the mind until nature calls. The organization behind the fundraiser is Free Bleed based out of Amarillo whose mission is to spread awareness on the importance of feminine hygiene and menstrual care while also raising money to provide public schools with those products.
“It’s a grassroots organization that started with Kendra Kay who’s a tattoo artist out of Amarillo, and it’s basically raising money to get feminine hygiene products in schools,” tattoo artist Stefany Barboza said. “We want to make it more accessible for students so they don’t have to worry about something like that. There’s always toilet paper in public restrooms and in schools, but when you’re a girl and it’s that time of the month and you’re unprepared, what happens then?”
“It’s been nonexistent, so that’s why we wanted to do this. I’m not sure what they have in place for the schools, but as far as for specifically feminine hygiene, there’s not.”
The event featured vendors and artists from Pampa and Amarillo, such as Rise Up Art based out of Amarillo, Maricela Rincon of Pretty Girl Creations, as well as a wide variety of paintings from renowned artists up for sale.
