On behalf of the City Commission, Mayor Mike Borger officially signed a proclamation recognizing the 100th anniversary of First Presbyterian Church of Pampa, honoring a century of faithful service, worship, and community engagement in Pampa and the surrounding region.
The proclamation celebrates first Presbyterian Church’s longstanding commitment to spiritual growth, Christian education, community outreach, and compassionate service since its founding in 1926. For one hundred years, the congregation has been a steadfast presence in the life of Pampa, providing worship opportunities, educational programs, mission efforts, and support for individuals and families throughout the community.
During the signing ceremony, Mayor Borger acknowledged the church’s lasting contributions and its role in strengthening the civic and spiritual fabric of Pampa.
“I know what kind of difference a church makes in a town, speaking the name of Jesus and promoting faith in the almighty God-it makes such a difference,” Mayor Mike said. “And to do that for one hundred years, wow. It’s an incredible thing to keep going this long and I expect it to keep going. I congratulate you all on your hard working and the peace you bring and the peace you choose to keep. I commend you.”
The proclamation reads as follows:
‘Whereas, First Presbyterian Church of Pampa, founded in 1926, has faithfully served the people of Pampa for one hundred years, providing a place of worship, fellowship, leadership, and community for generations; and
Whereas, the Church has stood as a pillar of faith and service, offering spiritual guidance, community outreach, and programs that strengthen families, support youth, and enrich the lives of residents throughout our city; organizations such as Sheltered Workshop, Genesis House, Tralee Crisis Center, Community Daycare Center, and Good Samaritan House were founded with participation of members and support of the Church; and
Whereas, the congregation of First Presbyterian Church has demonstrated unwavering dedication to stewardship, neighborly love, and community leadership, many church members having served in leadership roles on the boards of governmental and charitable organizations, contributing significantly to the cultural and spiritual fabric of Pampa; and
Whereas, the year 2026 marks the Centennial Anniversary of First Presbyterian Church of Pampa, a milestone that honors its enduring legacy and celebrates its continued commitment to serving future generations; and
Whereas, the City of Pampa recognizes the profound impact this Church has had on our community, and wishes to honor its century of faith, service, and fellowship;
Now, therefore, I, Mike Borger, Mayor of the City of Pampa, Texas, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as the 100th Anniversary Month of First Presbyterian Church Pampa, and encourage all citizens to join in celebrating this Centennial and recognizing the Church’s remarkable contributions to our community.’
Members who were present at the ceremony expressed gratitude for the recognition reflected on the congregation’s rich history and hopeful future. Church leaders noted that the centennial celebration is not only an opportunity to honor the past, but also to renew the church’s commitment to serving God and neighbors in the years to come.
Throughout its ministry, First Presbyterian Church has remained dedicated to fostering faith, encouraging fellowship, and serving the people of Pampa. The church’s centennial observance will include a special worship service on Sunday, October 18, at 10:45 AM, historical reflections, and community events such as the Youth Bowl-a-Thon to support Meals on Wheels on Sunday, October 4, at the Bowling Center, and a hamburger/homemade ice cream social on Saturday, October 17, in the early evening at the church, 525 N. Gray. It is hoped that representatives from other Pampa congregations will join them at the worship as it begins its second century of ministry and service.
