The Carnival Has Come to Town!

There’s rain in the forecast, so you know what that means! The carnival is here! But don’t let a little rain stop you from coming out and supporting the Pride of Pampa Band’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

The carnival will be open this week on Wednesday and Thursday from 6 PM to 10 PM, Friday from 6 PM to 11 PM, and Saturday from 3 PM to 11 PM at the MK Brown parking lot.

Head over to the Pride of Pampa Band food trailer where they’ll be serving up mouth-watering burgers, turkey legs, and homemade ice cream. And also check out the items available for their auction. All proceeds benefit the Pampa High School Band, and this year is especially exciting as they have been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the Veterans Day Parade in Waikiki, Hawaii with the Marine Band, as well as perform on the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor.

“This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that we’ve only been able to achieve because of so many years of success,” said PHS Band Director Andrew Sedlacek. “They send out flyers to those schools who are consistently good in both marching performances and concerts, which we have been for the last decade.”

Andrew and the Band Booster Club are trying to get as many students as they can to go on this trip, and every penny, every dollar raised from one of their fundraisers throughout the year brings one student closer to being able to capture this opportunity.

“We are working towards trying to get as many students as we can to be able to have this experience. Every couple of years we will take a trip out of state. We went to Washington D.C. a few years ago, and we went to Orlando earlier this year. It’s usually for groups of 20-30 students, and for a lot of them, this is the first that they’ve ever left the panhandle. A lot of them think of Amarillo as a big city and those buildings are skyscrapers. We’re trying to get these kids the experience of being outside of Pampa, getting them out of what they think is normal and seeing the world on a larger scale.”

So head on out to the carnival this week, grab a turkey leg or a burger, catch a ride on the ferris wheel, and support a fantastic cause!
