Connie Sue Garmon, 76 years old, of Amarillo, Texas, took her Father’s hand and answered His call home to eternal rest on Sunday, April 19, 2026, while surrounded by her family.
She and her twin sister, Bonnie Lou, were born in Wellington, Texas to Travis and Aline Winegeart on March 7, 1950. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1968, then while cruisin’ the drag in her ol’ blue Volkswagen bug that she loved so much, she met Larry Garmon and after dating for several months, he proposed and they married on June 6, 1970. Although they had never met one another beforehand, come to find out – that in our great big world, they grew up only one block from each other for all those years!
Over the course of her career life, Connie had been employed by The Pampa News, a bank while living in Edmond, as a church secretary in Perryton, at BSA Hospital, and then for Dr. Veggeberg until retiring in 2015. She was also a very active and participating member of the church in Perryton and taught GA’s.
She was an avid reader and loved nothing more than to get lost in an amazing novel, which was very evident by the stacks of books she kept around her – in case she had a spare minute to read! In years past, Connie enjoyed sewing, but once grandkids came along, she gave that up to spend quality time with them every chance she had the opportunity.
Nothing warmed her heart like cooking large meals and having the whole family over. She inevitably prepared way more food than necessary, allowing her to divvy up the leftovers making sure everyone had plenty to eat. And it was always a given that she MUST fix her fried potatoes for her granddaughters because they were the girls absolutely favorite and no one fixed them like grandma did.
Connie was a beautiful, sweet spirit, very giving, always carried a good attitude and even when things weren’t going so well or she wasn’t feeling very good, she always replied as “I’m good.” Never wanting to bother or burden others. She was extremely upbeat and the cornerstone and the glue that held the family together. Last but certainly not least…if you knew Connie, you knew she and her twin sister were Elvis Presley fans to the core and traveled to Graceland three times together! Her sweet smile and kind heart will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Those who joyfully welcomed her into Heaven with arms wide open are her parents, Travis and Aline Winegeart; a son, Monty Garmon; sisters-in-law, Martha Garmon and Clarissa Garmon and a great nephew, Jarred Winegeart.
Connie’s precious memories will forever be cherished by her husband, Larry Garmon of Amarillo; her son, Greg Garmon also of Amarillo; three sisters, Ellena Dupuis, her twin sister Bonnie Davis and Janie Vick all of Amarillo; a brother, Travis Winegeart and wife Jennifer of Fritch; two sisters-in-law, Pam Lorenson and Kim Johnson both of Pampa; four brothers- in-law, Troy Garmon of Guthrie, OK, Jerry Garmon of Dumas, David Garmon and wife Sherry of Pampa, and Tim Garmon of Texarkana, AR; three granddaughters, Peyton Garmon, Shelby Garmon and Madison Garmon; four great-grandchildren, Easton Kent Walker, Agnus Magnolia Walker, Trevor Cecil Brennen, Hadley Elizabeth Lindsey; a very special and dear friend, Alice Hall of Goodwill, OK and a slew of nieces, nephews and other family members who all loved her and will miss her dearly.
Connie will be available for viewing on Thursday, April 23 rd from 3 until 8pm and again Friday from 9am until 8pm at Winegeart Funeral Home in the Serenity Chapel.
Celebration of Life Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the McLean Cemetery with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating. The family has entrusted Winegeart Funeral home with the care of their loved one.
