Dave Kerns, 91, of Pampa, TX, passed away on January 12, 2024, in Pampa.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Byron Williamson of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Dave was born on June 23, 1932, in Tulsa. After high school in 1949, he joined the National Guard, and he served until 1957. Dave would eventually move to Pampa, TX. While in Pampa, he would meet Karen Dabbs, and they married on April 4, 1986. They blended two beautiful families before she preceded him in death in 2020.
Dave had a long and varied career that included working in maintenance for various businesses that included Genesis House and the Pampa Country Club. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit, and he was self-employed as well when he owned and operated his own hardware store and the Barrington Apartments. Dave also spent time as a Walmart greeter after retirement. He encountered several different people over the years and would later get to know many of them.
He was a former member of the First Christian Church of Pampa. In his spare time, Dave loved to fish, and he was talented enough to make a lot of his own fishing lures. He also liked spending the holidays with his family. Dave will be missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Aneta Kerns; by one daughter, Neta Gayle Kerns; and by one step-grandson and one step-great grandson.
Dave is survived by two sons, Jody Kerns and wife Lori of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Larry Kerns of Dewey, Oklahoma; a daughter, Christy Earnest of Edgewood, Texas; two stepsons, Brent Dabbs and wife Gail, and Gary Dabbs and wife Michelle, all of Pampa; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five step- grandchildren; 11 step-great grandchildren; and other extended family.
