Joe Grange, 81, of White Deer went to his heavenly home on November 3, 2023.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at White Deer Cemetery with Brother Alan Wilson, pastor at First Baptist Church in White Deer, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Joe was born on February 8, 1942 in Pease River to James “O.D.” Mack Grange and Cecile Maddox Grange. Joe attended school in Chillicothe through the third grade. After moving to the Texas panhandle, he continued his education in the White Deer and Skellytown School System, where he excelled at sports. Joe played on the White Deer High School State Championship team in 1958. His senior year he was elected as captain of the football team.
After graduation, Joe joined the United States Army. He was honored marksman in the artillery division. When he returned home, he worked for Getty Oil and numerous other oil companies until his retirement in 2009. Joe helped build the White Deer Rodeo Arena and was a charter member of the White Deer Riding Club. He was a faithful longtime member of the First Baptist Church in White Deer.
Joe was blessed with five beautiful daughters that he loved very much and enjoyed spending quality time with each of them. Joe and his wife Teri were together for 32 wonderful years. He loved spending time at the barn riding horses, hitting golf balls, and entertaining his grandchildren.
Joe was the definition of a true cowboy. He was strong, gentle, and kind. He was tall, dark, and handsome. Joe was a man of few words, but he meant what he said, and he said what he meant. He was a prankster and a grand storyteller. Joe was witty, funny, and could fix anything (especially if it involved duct tape.) He was a collector of all things and a jack of all trades. Joe was also the proud owner and CEO of Joe Mart, where he would buy, sell, or trade anything. Joe was a simple man. He fiercely loved his family. Joe was admired and respected by everyone that knew him. He was an example of what a real man should be. Joe would always find the good in people and loved Jesus.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James “O.D.” Mack Grange and Cecile Maddox Grange; and two brothers, Jerry Dan Grange and Mack Grange. He is survived by his wife, Teri Grange of the home; five daughters, Tish Thomason and husband Rick, Cari Ash and husband Jason, Brandi Lohberger and husband Justin, Penny Armstrong and husband Joseph Habiger, Kelsey Welch and husband Cassidy; 14 grandchildren, Sage Warner, Phebe Warner, Simone Warner, Ayden Ash, John Christian Ash, Morgin Lohberger, Landon Lohberger, Parker Lohberger, Maverick Habiger, Jentry Habiger, Delilah Habiger, Hadlee Habiger, Maddox Brooks, and Riley Joe Welch; one great- granddaughter, Blakely Simone Ash; and one sister, Margaret McAdams and husband Carl.
