2nd Annual Pampa Mom Prom

Posted

On Saturday, February 24, Tiffany Kimmell of Sweet T’s Clothing Company, located at 211 N. Cuyler in Pampa, and Dakota Kenney, manager for The Harbor and office manager at Carmichael-Whatley, hosted the 2nd annual Mom Prom, an event that brought the women of Pampa together for a night full of fun, social interaction and empowerment.

After being inspired by Amarillo’s Mom Prom a couple of years ago, Kimmell and Kenney hosted their own last year with an impressive turnout, and as with any first-time event, the experience and knowledge gained resulted in the second one an even bigger success.

The purpose of the event was to invite the women of Pampa (mom or not) a chance to glam up and enjoy a ladies’ night out in prom style- giving some the opportunity to relive their own high school prom, or provide the experience to those who didn’t get to go to one.

The event took place at The Harbor, a community event center located at 708 N. Hobart, and featured delicious hors d’oeuvres from Barb’s Catering, delectable desserts from Brushstrokes and Buttercream and endless drinks and cocktails served by Sisters on the Rocks.

The music of DJ Fish on Fire, who donated his time, kept the groove going as women from all ages and walks of life danced throughout the night.

A photo booth to capture the memories of the unforgettable night was provided by Nikki Shelton from Shutterbug Photography, located at 207 N. Cuyler in Pampa.

There was also a silent auction and raffle with items provided by numerous community members, businesses and sponsors who donated their time and money to contribute to the success of the event.

The theme for the prom was ‘Decades’, giving everyone an opportunity to get creative with their attire, from Flappers and Teeny Boppers to even an Egyptian goddess.

Although it was an all-ladies event, a few high-profile male celebrities made their appearance and despite their reputations, they remained quiet and still the entire night, smiling at whoever passed their cutouts.

The women got to also take part in crowning for Biggest Hair, Tackiest Dress, and of course, Prom Queen-with Carley Thomas winning the prestigous title.

The funds raised for the Mom Prom go toward scholarships and Wheels Times, Inc., a Pampa organization that allows children and young adults with physical disabilities to enjoy competing in sports.

The scholarships are rewarded to female leaders within the community who wish to further their education and submit their application with an essay about what they have done for their communities and how the scholarship will help them.

Last year, the funds raised for Mom Prom allowed Kimmell and Kenney to award a $1,000 and $500 scholarship to two lucky gals, and with this year’s event being bigger than the last, it will allow them to award even more.

More information about the scholarships will be given as soon as it is available.

Tiffany Kimmell and Dakota Kenney thank everyone who volunteered, donated and helped contribute to the event’s success and to all the women of Pampa who came together for an unforgettable and uplifting evening.
