An Amarillo Man was killed in a single-vehicle crash south of Claude on Sunday morning.

At approximately 4:10 a.m. on Sunday morning, John Baird, 46, Muleshoe, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina on State Highway 207.

For unknown reasons, the car veered off of the roadway into a barrow ditch where the driver over-corrected the steering and lost control of the vehicle.

Baird was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition.

The passenger, David Charles, 67, Amarillo, died on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.  Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigators findings.
