It is always our intent to keep you informed but especially in times like these. If you do not see an update from us every day, that’s not always a bad thing. We want you kept up to date as much as possible but sometimes things have not changed. Rest assured when there is absolutely anything that needs to be put out we will not hesitate getting the information to you.
Last week Gray County Judge, Chris Porter, swore in Dr. Kevin Sieck as the Gray County Local Health Authority (LHA). By definition a LHA is a competent and reputable physician licensed to practice medicine in Texas who is appointed by a municipality or county to administer state and local laws relating to public health within the appointing authority’s applicable jurisdiction. An LHA has supervisory authority and control over the administration of communicable disease control measures within his or her jurisdiction unless specifically preempted by the state.
We sat down with Dr. Sieck to give the public some first-hand information on where we stand as a City/County.
“I understand there is a lot of concern and confusion about what is going on with the COVID-19 (Coronavirus.) I strongly recommend following CDC (Center for Disease Control) guidelines on protecting yourself, your family and other community members. If you can stay home, stay home. If you need to get out for essentials, practice social distancing. All these things will help “flatten the curve.” We are as prepared in Pampa as anyone else, but flattening the curve and not bombarding the healthcare system is why we encourage everyone to take the precautions your leaders have provided. We have tested people in Pampa and other parts of Gray County. We have capabilities to continue to test in Pampa based on CDC and State guidelines. As of today, all results have come back negative. We have zero confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Pampa/Gray Co. We just encourage you to continue to be diligent in following CDC, State and local guidelines. Call your physician if you feel sick. They can advise you on what your next steps should be. We all must do our part.”
As of today (March 23) we are still at level YELLOW with ZERO confirmed cases.
