The Gray County Commissioner’s Court met for a regularly scheduled meeting, the meeting opened for public comment to agenda item 5, lowering the speed limit for a county road.

The county road in consideration, 6 1/2, was receiving complaints from home owners for the lack of posted sign-age. The courts decision to lower the speed limit to 30 mph will become effective as soon as sign-age is posted, which is planned for the first of next week.

The court also approved after revisiting line item 4, the consideration of a local government code 399 “P.A.C.E.” Naming Texas Pace Authority as Administrator, which covers 45+ counties in Texas so far. The program offers improvement for county water and energy. The court discussed an inter local agreement with Texas Division of Emergency Management for office space in the Gray County Courthouse.

“We spoke on this at our last meeting,” County Judge, Chris Porter said. “The office space that was requested, we’ve already allowed them to start using, with an agreement that Gray County is not liable for anything brought into the building for use by them.”

The motion was passed with the clause now in place protecting Gray County from liability on damages.

In attendance were Lefors Volunteer Fire Department Chief and Assistant Chief, the two were in attendance to request a yearly financial allocation of $45,000 to the department.

“In light of recent events, the department has created new guidelines for all money we receive,” LVFD Chief, Terry Jones said. “We meet monthly to discuss items, as well as pay bills. A third party fills out checks to pay bills, and then myself and the Assistant Chief sign them and they’re taken to the bank.”

The department was approved for the yearly financial allocation, with an agreement to provide the County Auditor, Carla Carter with monthly expense reports and balance sheets.
