The Harvest Park Apartments, located at 1011 E. Harvester Avenue, opened in January and offers two and three bedroom apartment homes.

“We’re part of an affordable housing program that is governed through the IRS,” Carri Eisenhauer, Regional Property Management Specialist for Wilhoit Properties, said. “We have two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments that are 990-square-feet that rent for $625/month. Then we have a three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment that are 1,170-square-feet that rent for $735/month.”

There are income restrictions through a “step up” program designed for tenants who are not in a position to buy a house to have a place to live.

“They can go to work, save up and do what they need to buy a home eventually,” Eisenhaur said. “It is based on the number of people in the household. Apartments are fully equipped with energy efficient appliances to make utilities inexpensive.”

Appliances included in apartments are dishwasher, garbage disposal, electric range, refrigerator/freezer with an ice-maker, microwave and a full-sized washer/dryer.

Apartments come with a balcony/patio with an additional storage unit. Amenities on the properties include a gate, barbecue grills, playground equipment, a dog park, business center, cardio-fitness center and a resident services coordinator.

Many of the residents are first responders and those who make a moderate income.

“There were some police officers and firefighters that moved in,” Eisenhaur said. “It’s a moderate income level. It’s 60 percent of the median income level for the community. We look at what people in the county make times 60 percent.

“It’s every day people who work Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Walmart, Dollar General and grocery store. We have some single-parents that are having a difficult time receiving child support but are continuing education while working.”

The properties are designed to be a step up to get situated and move on to the next phase of their life.

There are 60 apartments on the property, with both sizes available. Wilhoit properties are found at more than 300 communities in more than a dozen states.

“We are driven to create communities to help people,” Eisenhauer said. “We really strive to be a community to provide market amenities at discounted rates to help people step up.”
