Harvester Season Comes To Close Friday Night In Loss To Dumas

Posted

Last night, the Pampa Harvesters (0-5,  2-8) concluded the regular season at home against the Dumas Demons (1-3, 3-6). Most of the season the Harvesters had been getting lucky with the weather, until this week. Heavy rains most of the week left puddles all around the sideline. Temperatures were hovering in the lower 40s at kickoff. As soon as the rain stopped, the brisk north wind fired up. It was a cold one for the season finale. The good news is the rain did finally come to an end before the game. This allowed senior night to go off without a hitch. Pampa honored 18 players, five cheerleaders, five filmers, two havoc members, and one trainer during the senior night presentation. The band’s senior night was at halftime.

Dumas won the toss and deferred to the second half. Pampa would get the ball to begin the game and driving the field side with the wind at their backs toward McNeely Fieldhouse.

The Harvesters were unable to move the ball and had to punt on their first drive. Dumas went down on their first drive in 4 plays, 64 yards, 1:46 to draw first blood, 7-0, after the extra point was successful.

Pampa could not get anything going again on offense on their next drive. Dumas had a couple of botched snaps which prevented them from doing anything on their drive.

The Harvesters’ next drive went nowhere again. Dumas scored quickly with a 42-yard touchdown run at the start of their next drive to make the score 14-0 with 5:19 to play in the first quarter.

Dumas went 9 plays, 47 yards, 3:42 to take a 21-0 lead just after the second quarter had begun.

Pampa had some offense get going on their following drive as Senior Running Back Christian Davalos ran for 66 yards down the field to set up the Harvesters in the red zone. On the next play, Junior Running Back Isaiah Estrada punched it in for the touchdown from 11 yards out. The extra point attempt was blocked and the score rested 21-6 Dumas with 9:44 to play in the first half.

The Demons struck quickly again with a 71-yard touchdown strike to take a 28-6 lead with 8:49 to play in the first half. The Harvesters had another good run of 37-yards from Davalos but the drive ended up being a turnover on downs with 7:05 to play in the half.

Dumas only needed 3 plays, 74 yards and 1:21 to score and make it 35-6 with 5:37 to play in the game.

Pampa was forced to punt on their next drive. However, the returner fumbled the ball and Senior Defensive Back Britton Joyce recovered a fumbled punt at the 3-yard line. The drive did not go anywhere and Pampa turned it over on downs with 1:53 to play in the half.

Dumas went 7 plays, 95 yards, and scored with no time left in the half. The score was 42-6 at halftime after the extra point was good.

The Demons took the opening drive of the third quarter right down the field again for a 49-6 lead with 7:10 to play in the third quarter.

Davlos had another long run and this time he bounced into the endzone on a 61-yard touchdown scamper. The two-point conversion attempt was incomplete but the score rested now 49-12 with Dumas on top and 2:45 to play in the third quarter.

Both teams agreed to a running clock for the second half it appeared. The end of the third quarter saw Dumas driving around midfield and with the 49-12 lead. The Demons ended up kicking a field goal on the drive to take a 52-12 lead with 6:02 to play in the ball game.

The Harvesters just ran the remaining time off the clock to end the game and the season.

Final: Dumas 52, Pampa 12.
