Harvesters Fall To Lubbock-Cooper In Season Opener

The Pampa Harvesters (0-1) opened the season on Tuesday evening when they hosted the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates.

The Pirates size played a big key in the game as they stifled the Harvesters en route to a 61-26 victory.

“Lubbock Cooper is probably the biggest team we will play all year,” Head Coach Braydon Barker said. “Their guards were very long and athletic, so that gave us some trouble. We struggled initiating our offense in the second and third quarters against their pressure. I thought our defense was tremendous in the first quarter last night.”

Junior Jose Alonzo led the team in scoring with 12 points last night with a 3-pointer while going 1-2 in free throws.

“Jose looked really good coming right out of football,” Barker said. “Due to us missing a few key players, Jose had to play point guard last night. He brings a lot of versatility to our lineup both offensively and defensively.

Junior Conner Hall had five points with a three; junior Bryce Lynn had three points with a trey; juniors Parker Webb and Tristan Bagwell each had a basket; junior Cam Johnston went 1-2 from the stripe and senior Julian Alonzo went 1-2 in free throws.

The Harvesters return to action on Friday when they host Caprock.

“Caprock is a very athletic team, but not near as big as Lubbock-Cooper,” Barker said. “It will be nice for our football guys to get a few more practices in this week before playing on Friday.”

Game time is around 7:30 p.m.
