On Thursday, March 14, the Pampa Regional Medical Center held a chili cookoff to raise money for the Hoover Volunteer Fire Department.

With a few of the firefighters as judges, including two junior firefighters, they had their work cut out for them and their taste buds with twelve different chilies to test, voting in the categories of Most Creative, Best in Show, Spiciest and everyone’s vote counted in the People’s Choice category.

The winners of the cook off were Alberic Haiduk for Spiciest, Kala Lindley for Most Creative and Tammy Johnston from the Pampa Medical Group for Best in Show and People’s Choice.

Winners got to tout their medals and Best in Show trophy as well as take a photo with the firefighters.

Tickets to the chili cook off were $5 each with the sole purpose of raising money for the Hoover Volunteer Fire Department to contribute monetary assistance due to the recent wildfires in February.

Pampa Regional Medical Center holds different fundraisers throughout the year for different organizations in the community, but this one was a no-brainer.

“We chose Hoover because they’re volunteer and have been out in the trenches. We wanted to help out because they’re a part of our community,” said Debbie Dixon, PRMC Human Resources Director.

The fundraiser was a success with an impressive $515 in cash raised, not including what was given through Venmo.
