The Pampa Lady Harvesters (1-4) earned their first win of the season on Saturday when they knocked off the Gruver Greyhounds 47-34.
“It felt great,” Head Coach Clint Watson said. “We all kind of exhaled after that win. It was nice to see the scoreboard in our favor after the first four games.
“Gruver is a perennial powerhouse. They are very well coached and disciplined. Coach Lankford does an excellent job there. And it was nice in the aspect that all of the girls contributed to the victory. It was definitely a total team effort.”
Senior Berlin Bartlett led the team in scoring with 25 points with a pair of threes while going 3-5 in free throws; Senior Briley Daniels had 10 points and went 4-6 in free throws; Senior Cambree Dyer and Freshman Emmy Boutsamaly each had a three-ball and Junior Heiley Guerra, sophomores Makenna Kotara and Payton Gowin each had a bucket.
As a team, the Lady Harvesters went 7-15 in free throws.
Dyer is another senior on this Lady Harvester squad that Watson looks to provide leadership as the year goes on.
“Cambree is one of the best shooters I have been able to coach,” Watson said. “She was a sophomore when I got the job and I started telling her from Day One that she needs to shoot the ball. She has a quick trigger, she can hit a pull up jumper and now she’s added being able to play with her back to the basket. Her basketball IQ is also pretty high.”
The Lady Harvesters return to action this weekend when they travel to the Canadian Tournament.
“I love tournaments because it usually means playing teams that you wouldn’t normally play,” Watson said. “And most of the time, you are playing multiple games per day. You have to be mentally tough to be able to play two or three games per day. We open the tournament with Panhandle.”
