Regarding Wanda Mitchell

There’s only so much an obituary can say. Wanda Mitchell was a hug waiting to happen. If you crossed her path (assuming you were behaving) you left it with a smile on your face and warmth in your heart. If you were misbehaving, well, one look from her pierced lips with her hands on her hips and the offender immediately corrected course.

She had 7 children, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. What none of us know is how many people really felt like she was their mom or grandma. I don’t remember a single holiday that didn’t include anyone that needed somewhere to go. Anyone that spent a holiday with her got the same affection and attention that everyone received. She never acted like blood was thicker than water and we never had a separate ‘family’ gathering. If you were invited, you were family.

She made the best grilled cheeses. In fact, they were so good I think legend has it they are single-handedly responsible for the size of those Fletcher boys. Her husband Jack was known for all the rest of the cooking, especially Navajo tacos, but her grilled cheeses and butterfly sandwiches could cure a bored summer and any sniffle in short order.

Grandma ALWAYS said I love you and we NEVER left her presence without hearing her say it. Truthfully, those words never needed to cross her lips for us to know she loved us. We all loved her beyond words and will miss her so incredibly much.
