Myra Nell (Willis) McLaughlin, 94, of Amarillo, and formerly of Miami, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2023, at Miami Cemetery with John McCall officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Myra was born on May 21, 1929, in Stamford, Texas to Ernest T. and Myrtle A. (Gurney) Willis. She attended Moran, Texas elementary and high school, graduating in 1945. Myra moved to Denton with her parents in June of 1945. There she attended Texas State College for Women for two years. Myra taught at Miami Elementary School after college for three years, but she returned to Denton soon after and enrolled at North Texas Teachers College. She graduated in June of 1951. Next, Myra taught in a Fort Worth elementary school until May 1952.

On August 23, 1952, Myra married the love of her life, Elmer McLaughlin. The two were married for 63 wonderful years before he preceded her in death on May 25, 2016. Myra was a member of NEA, TSTA, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Pampa Retired Teachers. She was an active member of the Somerville Street Church of Christ in Pampa.

Myra is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer McLaughlin; a sister, Peggy Jo Crouch; and a nephew, Mark Puckett.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Ann Jones and husband Royce of McKinney; son, Jerry Dan McLaughlin and wife Minerva of Amarillo; 4 grandchildren, Daniel Jones of Pottsboro, David Jones of Olympia, Washington, Michael McLaughlin and wife Ally of Melbourne, Florida, and Matthew McLaughlin of Syracuse, Utah; 4 great-grandchildren, Lauren Jones of Allen, Ryan Jones of Richardson, and Nolan and Tate McLaughlin, both of Melbourne, Florida; sister, Ernestine Puckett of Colleyville; and nephews, Doug Puckett and wife Sheila of Colleyville, and Kirk Puckett and wife Kayla of North Richland Hills.
