New Day

Posted

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Every day is a new day. I know that is something that we have heard time and again. Yet we are in the year 2020! It seems like each day brings something that we haven’t seen before or we didn’t expect to see.

On Sunday morning I was getting around getting around to go to the church and see what the sidewalks and drive were going to be like. The snow was coming down pretty good and the wind was blowing. Bro. Zoy and I shoveled some of the sidewalk and paused to see how long it would take to cover it up.

After a bit we determined that this was definitely going to be a new day. As we considered the safety of the folks we determined that the best decision we could make is to have our folks stay home, stay safe and just go with a online service.

As long as I can remember it has been said – ‘If you don’t like the weather in the panhandle, just hang on, it will change in a little bit.’ I guess every day is a new day when it comes to the weather. It can be sunny and warm one day and then cloudy and cold the next. You just never know.

As we approach Christmas 2020 each day will bring something new into our lives. In reality, it is nothing different than what we have experienced in the past. Each day continues to unveil something new in our lives.

I can only imagine what it was like for the shepherds as they were out on the hillside that night. They were talking with one another about what they were going to be doing. Things were quiet as they visited with one another and watched over the sheep just like any other day. Then all of the sudden it changed.

Luke 2:9-14 says – 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

What had started out as just another day, changed in that moment. But the truth is that it not only changed that day but all the days since then. Sure, they continued to go to the hillside to care for the sheep. The sheep continued to wander off. Yet things changed.

But what changed that day was their lives. Luke 2:20 says – 20 “The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.”

Their new day changed their lives from that moment on. Oh, I know they continued to care for the sheep. Yet, from that moment on what they experienced impacted their lives. I can only imagine what they experienced each night as things quieted down and they looked up to the stars.

The truth is this Christmas; God desires to give us a new day that will forever change our lives. Yet we have to be open to Him as He speaks to us. So as we come to this Christmas just remember that He has given us the path to a new day in Christ.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
