Pampa ISD holds regularly-scheduled meeting Monday

The Pampa Independent School District board of trustees held a regularly-scheduled meeting on Monday evening for what was a rather routine agenda.

The Pampa News caught up with superintendent Tanya Larkin on Tuesday who talked about what was covered at the meeting.

The consent agenda was approved in its entirety aside from the Memorandum of Understanding with Pampa Regional Medical Center on the telemedicine equipment. Larkin said there are just a handful of details needing ironed out on the MoU.

In the action items, the Board approved the monthly financials and approved board member Matt Brock and Pete Denney to serve on the Gray County Appraisal District board of directors.

An item carried over from last month’s meeting was the interlocal agreement with surrounding school districts regarding transportation.

“The Texas Education Code and Government Code both call for an interlocal agreement for transferring students across district lines,” Larkin said. “The Board discussed the pros and cons of engaging in interlocal agreements with area school districts. Currently, we do not have any agreements on file and have not had as far back as I could look. But the Board went ahead and took action to continue without engaging in any agreements.”

The Board received a presentation on advanced placement and dual-credit, which showed promising results.

There were 157 students and 99 percent of the students who took dual-credit earned college credit. There were 62 students, around 18 percent of their advanced placement students, who scored. One hundred percent of the students received college credit in Spanish and calculus.

“Overall, our advanced academic and college/career programs are improving,” Larkin said. “What’s interesting and I’m really excited about this year; last year we had 157 students in dual-credit, this year we have 249. We will have a lot more students receive college credit at the end of this year.”

Pampa ISD is up 10 students and at the end of September they reported 3,542 students on the enrollment report.
