National Assisted Living Week is being held from Sept. 12-18 and to celebrate Meredith Place will be holding a series of events throughout the week including a pet food drive for Pampa Animal Welfare Society.
“We try assist and help out with the nurses or law enforcement,” Living Enrichment Coordinator Kristie Fuller said. “This year we are doing PAWS for a Good Cause and we will be collecting cat food, dog food, etc. from Sept. 12-18.”
Executive Director Crystal Arreola added donors can also bring pet beds, toys, blankets and more.
Meredith Place is also pet-friendly and residents are allowed to bring their pets when they move in.
On Sunday, to kick off the week, Meredith Place will be holding a breakfast for Grandparents Day.
On Sept. 15, it will be Relaxing Pajama Day featuring pampered facials and mimosas. On Sept. 16, it’s Wacky Dress Day for silly photos and on Sept. 17, it will be Spirit Day including Meet the Harvesters.
On Sept. 14, the residents will be baking cookies to give out around the community.
“We just want to shower the community in sweets because they are so sweet to us,” Fuller said. “They always volunteer and help us.”
Over the last few months, Meredith Place has been doing the “Great American Century Tour” with each month assigned a decade from the 20th Century.
“We started in the 1920s and this month we are in the 1970s,” Fuller said. “Right now everything we do is themed around the 1970s. Our breakfast is called ‘Grandparents are groovy’ and at the end of the month we will hold a disco party.”
Meredith Place has some openings and has apartments available.
“We’re not a long-term care nursing home,” Fuller said. “Every apartment is equipped with a full bathroom, a kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator. These are apartments, not just rooms. We have one bedroom and studio apartments available.”
