Pregnancy Support Center to host annual Walk virtually

The Pampa Pregnancy Support Center’s annual Walk for Life will be held virtually, for the second straight year, on April 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.

“We will use [two treadmills housed at the Center] and have different people from the community on them for 15 minutes,” Pregnancy Support Center Director Monica Galloway said. “Last year, Richard Hawthorne emceed it and he did a really good job. He will be back again.”

The annual walk has been one of the Center’s fundraisers since it opened in 1992. Last year, the virtual fundraiser was a huge success, prompting Pregnancy Support Center to use the same format.

“We’ve done a walk and a banquet all of those years (since 1992),” Galloway said. “With the walk, it seemed like less and less people were coming so we were looking to do something to draw people in. Then Covid hit and we did nothing in 2020.

In 2021, we decided to do this and it got a lot of response with a lot of people watching on Facebook and a lot of donations.”

Donors can watch online and donate, or call the Center and make a pledge. Galloway said one of the reasons the virtual walk was successful is because of the community members involved.

“Brad Pingel, Jamison Hancock and Byron May will all do it this year,” Galloway said. “Richard Hawthore introduces all of the walkers and give them a minute to say why they are doing the walk. Some of them are funny and some of them are really serious about it.”

The Center serves a lot of young women and families who are at a pivotal time in their lives.

“We hired two RNs last year and do ultrasounds every single week,” Galloway said. “We do free pregnancy tests and parenting classes. We give away diapers and formula, baby clothes and maternity clothes.”

While it is not currently occupied, Pregnancy Support Center also has the Hope House maternity home.

“It gives them a chance to have the baby, get on their feet and find a job,” Galloway said. “They can save up some money and get in a home. Our goal is to help the women get to a place where they can provide for their children. They aren’t married and may not be in the best situation.”

Pregnancy Support Center is a faith-based, pro-life organization.

“Every opportunity we have to present the gospel, we will do so,” Galloway said. “Our classes are all phases from discipline, to first aid, safety, etc. We cover all of those.”

The Pregnancy Support Center is open Monday through Wednesday from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m.
