Sweet Street Patisserie: Sweets made with love

Posted

Starla Kindle retired as a counselor at Pampa High School two years ago.

After a lot of time at home baking, she decided she wasn’t quite ready to be retired full-time and she started Sweet Street Patisserie right next to Vintage Whimsy in Downtown Pampa.

“I have been making cookies, breads and other baked goods for a long time,” Kindle said. “After retiring from the high school, I decided I wasn’t ready to lay it up yet.”

The business opened it’s doors on Wednesday, June 10.

In the mornings, Sweet Street Patisserie will offer scones, cinnamon rolls and muffins. After 11 a.m., they will turn their attention to the desserts with cookies, bundt cakes, cupcakes, brownies and blondies.

“Lots of people have never heard of blondies,” Kindle said. “But we grew up with blondies. You can either make them with butterscotch or white chocolate. It’s just a brownie but with those instead.”

The business will also offer salt water taffy, coffee, teas, bottled sodas and Italian sodas.

Kindle stressed that Sweet Street Patisserie is not trying to take any business away from fellow Cuyler business, The Coffee Shop.

“We’re really trying not to overlap what they do,” Kindle said. “We’re just trying to do our thing and provide the community with sweet treats. Our motto is, ‘A treat for every sweet taste.’”

Sweet Street Patisserie is housed in what used to be Tarpley’s Music Store, and left the iconic music notes wallpaper above their menu board.

“That’s an icon right there,” Kindle said. “That’s why we left it. We like it. It’s old and worn out, but we don’t care.”

Including Kindle, Sweet Street Patisserie will have five employees who will be baking, running the cash register and taking care of customers. Educators, veterans and senior discounts are available.

Sweet Street Patisserie will take special orders on cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc. But it will be limited for the time being until they get a second stove.

Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

“I’m just excited to be a part of Downtown Pampa and am excited to provide a service to all of Pampa with love,” Kindle said. “Our bottom line is like in Corinthians 16:14, ‘Let all that you do be done in love.’”
