Viral video star Back-it-Up Terry was on site at the Pampa Hometown Independence Day Celebration to meet with fans and take photos. Terry Davis became an online sensation six years ago when a video of his wheelchair malfunctioning after lighting a firework went viral on the internet. Davis’ family was also on site selling “Back-it-Up Terry” t-shirts to help raise money for a new wheelchair-accesible van since his previous one broke down. There is also a go-fund-me in place as well.
“Everybody is so nice here,” Terry’s mother, Anette Carter, said.
People were lined up throughout the day waiting to get their picture taken with Terry, or to buy a t-shirt to support his cause.
“Terry’s shirts from here on out will always have his signature and copyright logo,” said Carter. “They sell t-shirts all over the world and Terry hasn’t gotten one penny.”
People were apparently using Terry’s name and internet fame to make and sell t-shirts, but the money gained from selling those shirts was going to other people and not to the Carter family.
“People thought that they were supporting him,” Carter said.
The Carters would like it known that only t-shirts with Terry’s signature and the copyright logo are manufactured and sold by the Carter family, and all proceeds from sales of those shirts go directly to supporting Terry. That is the best way to show your support for Terry. Don’t be fooled by other sources you may see online.
